The industry supplies various grades of coir fibre, baled or twisted, for value addition abroad; produces value-added goods such as brooms, brushes, and boot scrapers from long-bristle fibre; produces and distributes other value-added products such as twine, floor coverings, woven and stitched geotextiles, rubberized coir for mattresses, home and car upholstery; and treats and exports coir pith as horticultural growth substrate. |

The origin of coconut pith
Coir fibre and fibre pith are extracted from the coconut husk. Coconut fibre is extracted by soaking the husks in water for 6 weeks. This loosens out the fibre and makes extraction possible by mechanical means. Coco pith is a by product in this process. |

Cocopeat/pith
| Coco pith is a 100% natural resource. It has all the features of high quality peat moss and thus an excellent growing medium. Coir fibre pith can hold almost 10 times its weight of water and has a high nutrient absorption capacity. It increases the porosity of dense soil and facilitates root penetration.
The high protective lignin content and the stiffness prevents it from decaying easily. These unique advantages make coco pith a much better growing medium than peat moss.
